Discover some of the hidden gems in Islay’s coastline. This full-day Islay wildlife experience is predominantly on foot, undeniably better for your health and better for the environment. This hike is suitable for those with a good level of fitness, as we will be heading well off the beaten track, a proper adventure… but let me assure you, it’s worth the effort! A chance to breathe in the crisp sea air, immerse yourself in the tranquillity and soak up the sights and sounds of the coast.

Southeast Islay Skerries Special Area of Conservation.

Explore deserted and secluded bays, there’s no itinerary here, we take our time and soak it in.

Option to contribute to the fight against marine litter with a bit of beach cleaning. A proportion of your fee for this tour is donated to our local beach ranger service.

The Wildlife

Possible encounters, depending on season, include common seals, red deer, fallow deer, white-tailed eagles, golden eagles, otters, and a host of coastal bird species. This is a magical place and just bursting with some of the best Islay has to offer.

What you need to know

This hike requires a very good level of fitness, in places the ground is steep, uneven, and wet underfoot.

Wear appropriate footwear, preferably waterproof hiking boots or sturdy comfortable wellington boots. Waterproof clothing, sunscreen and midge repellent are advised. It is Scotland after all!

Subtle coloured clothing is preferable.

Please bring a packed lunch and plenty of water.

Quality optical equipment is available to make those wildlife encounters even more special. Please feel free to bring your own, along with any camera equipment you’d like to use.
